Meadowview Earns Eco Schools Gold Status

Eco Schools on Track at Meadowview Public School

Gold Eco School Silver Eco School

Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education program designed by school boards and used across the province to instill environmental awareness in children.

School yard greening by our parent community, students and staff in October resulted in twenty-five new trees being planted which we will nurture. These trees will provide an outdoor learning setting, shade and beauty for years to come.
An Eco-school Team with small group specialists established in term 1 equals involved, busy participants doing reviews of waste management and energy use, caring for worms in compost bins, and engaging in planning for projects to involve the entire school community for the year.
Student leaders organize regular meetings and events (e. g., Environmental Poster contest) for team members, and help to maintain the Eco-schools binder.
Our team aim is to develop awareness of environmentally friendly practises within our community. We hope to achieve a renewed status of "Gold" for green efforts after our next application process in April.

Achievements to celebrate!

Meadowview achieved GOLD status for our efforts in the 2010 - 2011 and 2008 -2009 school years!
Students, staff, and parents planted trees as part of our schoolyard enhancement project. See article from the UCDSB's main website.
A silver designation was achieved with our first application in the 2007 - 2008 school year. This means a score of 63 to 74 points of 100 points, based on our performance in ecological literacy, energy conservation, waste minimization and school ground greening.
First place award in environmental action was received from the Tri-Valley Conservation Authority (Mississippi, Rideau and South Nation Watershed Regions) at the Gala Celebration in October, 2008 in the elementary school division. See story from the UCDSB's main website!
